She joined ASPI’s Fergus Hanson for a conversation on the challenges that technologies create and how democracies can work to better regulate them amid rising authoritarianism.

They discussed the proliferation of surveillance tools like Pegasus spyware and the need for companies to move away from a values-agnostic approach to one centred on human rights.

Schaake is the international policy director at Stanford University’s Cyber Policy Center. She is also International Policy Fellow at Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence and president of the Cyber Peace Institute.
