The 45 year-old<\/span> joined<\/span><\/a> the Kurdish People\u2019s Protection Unit in January 2014. Bright, of no Kurdish heritage, claimed to have a military and engineering background, although records couldn\u2019t be confirmed by the ADF. Bright is one of three Australians known to have fought alongside Kurdish forces including<\/span> Reece Harding<\/span><\/a> and<\/span> Ashley Kent<\/span><\/a> who both died last year. \u00a0ASIO<\/span> estimates<\/span><\/a> at least 45 Australians have died fighting in Syria since 2011.<\/span><\/p>\n Terror suspect data deleted in UK<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n An administrative error has led to the biometric data profiles of up to 810 terror suspects being<\/span> deleted<\/span><\/a> by UK Police and security services. The National Police Chief\u2019s Council<\/span> says<\/span><\/a> it\u2019s reviewing the error.<\/span><\/p>\n Checkpoint<\/b><\/p>\n Should I stay or should I go now?<\/span><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n In the US there are two<\/span> ways of becoming an illegal immigrant<\/span><\/a>: entering without inspection (EWI) illegally or entering legally and then losing legal status, often through overstaying a temporary visa. Previously the majority of new illegal US immigrants were EWI, a<\/span> recently published study at the Centre for Migration Studies<\/span><\/a> has shown that there\u2019s been a drastic increase in the number of US overstay illegal immigrants, with those exceeding their visa constituting 58% of new immigrations in 2012.<\/span> According Alex Nowrasteh of the Cato Institute<\/span><\/a> the increased contribution in the overstay rate isn\u2019t the result of diminished security at entry and exit points. Instead it appears that relatively secure borders have caused a significant decrease in EWIs. That\u2019s in contrast to a US Senate subcommittee hearing on<\/span> immigration last week<\/span><\/a>, where witness testimony stated that EWIs on the US\u2019 southwestern border and an increase in the number of overstays is indicative of an insecure US immigration system.<\/span><\/p>\n Problems at the British Channel for Border Security<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n Immigration is a point of contention in the looming<\/span> Brexit referendum on 23 June<\/span><\/a>. To get a handle on the real numbers of those entering the UK, the House of Commons Library<\/span> published a briefing paper on Migrations Statistics<\/span><\/a> and<\/span> Asylum Statistics<\/span><\/a> last week.
